Update (January 2024): At the end of December, I decided to pivot away from Peace Corps Senegal. Though it was an incredible and truly full-circle experience, a number of personal/family factors stacked up, and I realized it wouldn’t be fair — to my Senegalese community or myself — to have one foot in and one foot out the door. Read more about what went into this difficult decision in my last blog, which can be found under “Slices of Life.”
All Peace Corps pages and posts will stay up! I feel humbled and so fortunate to have had this opportunity, while also feeling excited for everything to come.
Welcome! I’m glad you’re here. For those who may not know the details, in January 2023, I was thrilled and honored to be accepted into the Peace Corps, departing in September for a two-year service as an Urban Agriculture volunteer in Senegal.
Three-and-a-half years after my Senegal study abroad program in college ended due to COVID-19, returning is truly an emotional and full-circle opportunity. But I won’t be a PCV (Peace Corps Volunteer) right away. My first three months are spent in “Pre-Service Training” with a cohort of other trainees — intensively focused on language, technical, intercultural, health, and safety training — before we’re officially sworn in and sent to different communities around the country. Much more could be said, but for now see here for more info on PC Senegal. You can also follow PC Senegal on Facebook or Instagram.
As for the blog: this serves as the landing page, while I’ll post content under two separate pages — Weekly-ish Updates and Slices of Life. Updates will likely come more often, and be centered on the ins-and-outs of what I’m up to. The slices of life will be a space for creative non-fiction and other longer-form pieces (in a similar vein to my study abroad blogs). Under both pages, I’ll try to include pictures and videos as much as I can.
To access these, you can click directly on the page names above, or there’s also a drop-down menu if you hover over the “Peace Corps” menu tab. Note: desktop viewing is recommended, but mobile will work too. Lastly, to subscribe to email updates, see below!
